What is Living Low?
Living Low is the Low Life living campaign (just like it says in the picture). Of course, if you don’t know what a living campaign is that information may be of limited value. Allow me to explain:
A tabletop RPG living campaign allows participants to create a character (using a preordained and uniform set of rules) and play that character in multiple adventures at various conventions, game days, and private gaming sessions. The character gains experience and equipment along the way and maybe, just maybe, learns a little bit more about himself (or herself) in the process. After each session a player’s character information is entered into a database and his or her (or its) progress is recorded.
Your Living Low character can be the same persona you use on The Whole Hole Suppository of Knowledge or it can be someone else entirely.
When Will it Launch?
Living Low is currently in the Beta testing phase. If you are interested in participating during testing, please contact Phyllin Makrakin (Thom Shartle) for more information. Living Low is set to officially launch the first events at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio June 3-7, 2015. Living Low events will also be run at Gen Con Indy 2015 and Con on the Cob.
What Rules System Does it Use?
Living Low uses a slightly modified version the Savage Worlds Deluxe rules. Savage Worlds is very simple and easy to play, which makes it perfect for the time slots offered at most conventions.
What do you mean by slightly modified?
A few changes to the Savage Worlds rules are included in the Low Life: The Rise of the Lowly (Redredged from the Muck) core rulebook and utilized during Living Low character creation. Most notably:
- The following Edges from the Savage Worlds Deluxe rulebook are not available in Low Life, having been replaced or superseded by others: Adept, all Arcane Backgrounds, Champion, Gadgeteer, Holy/Unholy Warrior, Jack-of-All-Trades, Leader of Men, McGyver, Mentalist, Mr. Fix It, Noble, Rich, Filthy Rich, Rock and Roll, Thief, Wizard.
- In all instances, Faith is replaced by Holy Rolling, Spellcasting is replaced by either Hocus Poking, Danged-Wrangling, Contanimating, Giggity Gigging, or Smellcasting, Weird Science is replaced by Weirding, and Psionics is replaced by Dementalism.
- Two new Skills (Crafting and Performing) are introduced.
- The character creation rules described in Low Life: The Rise of the Lowly (Redredged from the Muck) take precedence over those described in Savage Worlds Deluxe.
How Do We Sign Up?
Man, that’s a great question. We’re still working out all the organizational details, but the gist of it is that everything will be done through the Whole Hole Suppository of Knowledge website, with forms and character sheets in place to facilitate that jazz.
To sign up for playtesting or if you are interested in writing adventures for Living Low please contact Thom.
Who Writes the Adventures?
Living Low adventures are written by Whole Hole gadabouts like you and me. There will be a style guide and certain rules to follow, all of which we are currently working on fleshing out. If you are interested in writing for Living Low contact Thom.
